Agios Minas church
Is the metropolitan church situated at Agia Ekaterini square. Built during 1862-1895 is one of the most impressive churches as regards size and position. It is in the shape of a cross with a dome and four equi-distant pillars. On the western corner of the metropolitan church is a tiny, older church of Agios Minas (again) which has ornate wood carvings and icons from the 18th century. It is not known when it was built.
This small church since 1735 functioned for a substantial period of time as the metropolitan church until displaced by the big church. Nearby the archbisopric of Crete is located.
